The Claude Code mods most worth installing, by job: blast-radius and secret-redactor for safety, cache-tax, pixel-buddy and token-weather for cost and usage, cc-pr-tracker for pull requests, baton, plus our own session-pings and Session Tracker, for sessions, cc-multi-cli-plugin for other models, and prompt-spellcheck for typos. Three good ones are already inside Claude Code: /diff, AGENTS.md support and You should know. Below, each pick gets what it does, who it is for, how to install it, and its catch.

New to mods? A mod is a plugin with a few functions that run inside Claude Code and get a say each time something happens. Start with our plain guide, Claude Code mods, explained simply, then come back. Mods need Claude Code v2.1.287 or later in the terminal, where they are on by default.1

The list at a glance

Mods launched on October 1, 2026, and the community moved fast: one catalogue counted 1,753 mods in its October 4 scan.13 Most are experiments. This list is short on purpose. We picked these from what people recommend on r/ClaudeCode and r/claude and from the public catalogues, and checked each repository and README on October 6, 2026. Every pick has a public repository and a README that says what it does; where a README is thin, the note says so.

A few good mods were shared on Reddit without a public repository yet. We mention them under each job, with a link to the thread, but there is nothing to install until their authors publish them.

Safety and guards

A rule in CLAUDE.md is guidance, and Claude can still skip it. A mod sits around the session in code, so every tool call passes through it. That makes safety one of the best uses of mods.

blast-radius Anthropic sample

When Claude runs a risky shell command, such as rm -rf, git reset --hard, a force push or a database migration, blast-radius holds it and shows what it would change: the files it would delete, the uncommitted changes it would throw away, the commits a force push would drop, the pending migrations. You press Proceed or Cancel. If you cancel, Claude sees the reason and carries on another way.2

terminal
git clone https://github.com/anthropics/claude-code-playground.git
cd claude-code-playground/claude-code/mods

# try one for this session only
claude --plugin-dir ./blast-radius

# or keep it: add the folder as a marketplace, then install
claude plugin marketplace add ./
claude plugin install blast-radius@claude-code-playground-mods --scope user
  • Note: Anthropic shares its sample mods as they are, without support.1 blast-radius only checks the commands it knows; every other command runs as normal. Its side pane needs a terminal about 144 columns wide; in a narrower one the report shows in the band above the prompt.2

secret-redactor

secret-redactor swaps secrets, email addresses and IP addresses for placeholders before the model reads them. The same value always gets the same placeholder, so Claude can still tell two keys apart. When Claude uses a placeholder in a tool call, the mod puts the real value back, so the command still works. So a cat .env shows Claude placeholders, but the deploy command it runs still carries the real key. Nothing is written to disk.3

claude code
> /plugin marketplace add ray-amjad/awesome-claude-code-function-hooks
> /plugin install secret-redactor@awesome-claude-code-function-hooks
  • Note: it scans only what the model reads, not a secret the model types itself, and it spots secrets by known shapes and randomness, so it can miss some. The README was written during early access and still asks you to set CLAUDE_CODE_ENABLE_FUNCTION_HOOKS; Claude Code v2.1.287 and later ignore that setting, so you can skip it.13

Also shared on Reddit: a guard mod that asks you to confirm before any commit, push or deploy, and strips API keys from tool output before the model reads it (r/claude thread). No public repository was linked. If you would rather write your own guard, we cover it in rules Claude Code cannot ignore and how to keep secrets and personal data out of a session.

Cost and usage

cache-tax

Claude Code caches your conversation so each new message is cheap. When that cache expires, even a short message can make Claude Code write the whole long context again. cache-tax keeps the cache warm while you step away: run /keepwarm 90m before a break. When you come back to a cold cache in a long session, it stops your message once and shows the estimated cost of sending it; send it again to go ahead, or /clear and start fresh.4

terminal
claude plugin marketplace add karanb192/claude-code-mods
claude plugin install cache-tax@claude-code-mods
  • Note: the warming pings cost tokens too, so choose a window you expect to come back within. Warm and cold are estimates from a one hour clock, not a live check. API key sessions default to a five minute cache, so the README tells you to set the cache lifetime to one hour first.4

pixel-buddy

pixel-buddy draws usage meters and a cache timer above the prompt, next to a small animated pixel Claude that reacts as it works. Its README sums it up in one line: it "shows usage meters, and a cache timer."5

  • For: plan users who want their limits in view without running a command.
  • Get it: hamymarnie/marnie-plugins
  • Install: inside Claude Code:
claude code
> /plugin marketplace add hamymarnie/marnie-plugins
> /plugin install pixel-buddy@marnie-plugins
  • Note: the README is that one line, and the repository has no license file. The code is short, so read it before you install.

token-weather Anthropic sample

token-weather shows how full your context window is as a one-line forecast above the prompt: clear under 25%, cloudy from 25%, showers from 50%, a storm from 75%, and "compact soon" from 90%. It adds the tokens used, a small chart of the last 12 turns, and how much the last turn added. The numbers are the same ones the status line uses, not estimates, and the mod does not call a model.2

  • For: anyone who wonders why Claude forgot something, or wants to see a compaction coming.
  • Get it: anthropics/claude-code-playground, mods/token-weather
  • Install: the same way as blast-radius above, with token-weather in place of blast-radius.
  • Note: it counts against the full window, while Claude Code's own warning counts toward the point where it compacts, so the two percentages can differ.2

Also shared on Reddit: cost-meter, which shows what the session has cost so far above the prompt (r/ClaudeCode thread). No public repository was linked.

Git and code review

cc-pr-tracker

Paste a pull request URL as your prompt and cc-pr-tracker gives it one line above the prompt: merge state, review decision and required checks, refreshed every minute by default. When a check fails or the merge state changes, you get a toast and a sound, and Claude gets a note with the failing check's log link. It also picks up the pull requests Claude opens itself.6

  • For: anyone who opens pull requests from Claude Code and then waits on CI.
  • Get it: sezaakgun/cc-pr-tracker
  • Install: in your shell:
terminal
claude plugin marketplace add sezaakgun/cc-pr-tracker
claude plugin install cc-pr-tracker@cc-pr-tracker
  • Note: GitHub only, and it needs the GitHub CLI (gh) signed in. Keeping the list across sessions and the note to Claude need Claude Code v2.1.289 or later. Sounds are macOS only.6

Two more for reviewing what Claude changed. Anthropic's sample replay-theater adds a /replay command that steps through the file edits Claude made in the last turn, one diff at a time.1 And on Reddit, someone shared git-pane, a live side pane with the branch, changed files and recent commits (r/ClaudeCode thread), with no public repository yet. The built-in /diff is covered below.

Sessions and handoff

baton

baton passes a task from one Claude Code session to the session that owns another repo. Type /pass infra raise the worker service's memory to 4 GB and the infra session queues it if it is busy, makes the change, runs the repo's checks, opens a pull request and sends you the link. /ask sends a read only question instead, and a band above the prompt shows your sessions and every task in flight.7

  • For: people who keep one session per repo, such as an API, a web app and infrastructure.
  • Get it: ashishsk93/baton-mods
  • Install: in your shell, on every machine whose sessions should send or receive tasks:
terminal
claude plugin marketplace add ashishsk93/baton-mods
claude plugin install baton@baton-mods
  • Note: a passed task goes all the way to a pushed branch and a pull request, and baton submits prompts into your other sessions to do it. If you want to approve each task first, turn on Confirm tasks in /config, and use Accept from to limit which repos can send work.7

session-pings ours

We built this one at Fixter and open sourced it. session-pings sends a Mac notification that says which session needs you and what it needs: done, a question, or a permission to approve. The title is the session's name, so with five sessions open you know which one to click. If a question stays unanswered for five minutes, it reminds you once.8 Why we made it a mod and not a settings hook is in Claude Code notifications: why a mod beats a hook.

  • For: anyone running several Claude Code sessions at once, in the desktop app's Code tab or the terminal.
  • Get it: fixter-dev/session-pings
  • Install: in your shell, then restart your sessions:
terminal
claude plugin marketplace add fixter-dev/session-pings
claude plugin install session-pings@session-pings

# optional: makes a click open that exact session
brew install terminal-notifier
  • Note: it is built for macOS and is at version 0.1. Its one-line summaries use a little Haiku usage on your own login per notification; set aiSummaries to false to use the first sentence of Claude's reply instead. Remove any old notification settings hooks, or you get two of everything.8

Also shared on Reddit: /fleet-manager, which spawns and manages other Claude Code sessions and shows them in a panel (r/claude comment). No public repository was linked.

Claude Code Session Tracker ours

Also ours, and open source. Run /sessions and a sidebar lists every Claude Code session open on your machine, the ones that need you first: needs you, finished, working, idle. Each row shows the project, the session's title, how full its context is and, for a working session, the task it is on. You can message a session or close it without switching to it, and you get a toast and a short sound when another session finishes or waits on you.14 More in Manage multiple Claude Code sessions from one sidebar.

terminal
claude plugin marketplace add fixter-dev/claude-code-session-tracker
claude plugin install session-tracker@claude-code-session-tracker
  • Note: it needs Claude Code 2.1.289 or later and works best in fullscreen (/tui fullscreen), where the list docks as a sidebar. It only sees sessions on this machine, context percentages are partly inferred, and it is built for macOS first.14

Other models

cc-multi-cli-plugin

cc-multi-cli-plugin brings other providers' models into one Claude Code session: ChatGPT models through a Codex login, Cursor, OpenCode Zen, Antigravity and Grok. They show up in /model, and Claude can hand work to them as workers through its Agent tool. Each provider keeps its own login and permissions, and Claude's permission mode still applies.9

  • For: people who already pay for another provider and want a second model on a task without leaving Claude Code.
  • Get it: greenpolo/cc-multi-cli-plugin
  • Install: inside Claude Code, one plugin per provider you want (OpenAI shown here):
claude code
> /plugin marketplace add greenpolo/cc-multi-cli-plugin
> /plugin install multi-openai@cc-multi-cli-plugin
> /reload-plugins
> /multi-core:setup
  • Note: this is more than a mod. It adds its own launch command, claude-multi, and needs Node 24.12 or newer. Work you hand to another model counts toward your usage with that provider.9

An alternative: SavaSoftworks/BitFrost lets Claude start subagents that run on GPT through Codex or GLM through ZCode. It is in beta, runs on Linux and macOS 12.3 or later, installs through a script, and its README says a Claude Code update can switch it off until it is fixed.10

Prompts

prompt-spellcheck

When you press Enter, prompt-spellcheck sends your prompt to Haiku to fix spelling only, swaps in the corrected text, and shows a toast with what changed. Code, paths, URLs and flags stay as you typed them, and it skips slash commands and prompts with a code block. If the check fails or takes longer than 8 seconds, your prompt goes through unchanged.11

claude code
> /plugin marketplace add ljmerza/prompt-spellcheck
> /plugin install prompt-spellcheck@prompt-spellcheck
  • Note: every checked prompt is one extra Haiku request on your account, and it adds that wait to every send. /spellcheck off turns it off.11

Mods already built into Claude Code

Some of Claude Code's own features are mods. You can see them in /plugin, on the Installed tab, under Built-in. There is nothing to install. You cannot uninstall them, but you can turn most of them off there.1 Others, such as sec-default and telemetry, run in the background and are not covered here.

  • /diff (cc-plugin-diff). Draws the /diff pane, so you can review Claude's changes without leaving the session. On in interactive terminal sessions. If you turn it off, /diff stays and Claude Code's own built-in version answers it.1
  • AGENTS.md support (cc-plugin-agents-md). Loads AGENTS.md as project instructions, which helps if your repo also serves other coding agents. On in every session that can read it.1
  • You should know (cc-plugin-you-should-know). Runs a side agent that watches longer tasks and shows a note above the prompt when it finds something you might miss. Off by default; turn it on with /plugin enable cc-plugin-you-should-know@builtin. The side agent adds some usage. Our guide: what cc-plugin-you-should-know does.1

The source of the diff and AGENTS.md mods is public, which makes them good examples to read if you want to build your own.12

Before you install any mod

Mods are not sandboxed. Anthropic's docs list what a mod can do once it loads: read and write any file your user can, start programs, make network requests, read your environment variables and settings (including API keys kept there), see every prompt and tool call, rewrite them, approve a tool call before you are asked, and call a model on your plan. Even with Claude Code's sandbox on, a process a mod starts runs outside it.1 So treat a mod like any code you run on your machine. Four checks:

  1. Check the repo. Who made it, when it last changed, whether the README says what the mod reads, runs and sends. Most mods keep their logic in one file under hooks/; skim it.
  2. Run claude plugin validate on a clone. It does not run the mod. Its hooks: and calls: lines list the events the mod handles and what it asks Claude Code to do, such as read a file or make a network request.1 A spell checker that makes network calls to its own server would be a red flag.
  3. Try it for one session first with claude --plugin-dir, before you install it for good.
  4. Know the off switch. Disable one mod in /plugin. Start with --safe-mode to run one session without any installed mods, or set disableAllHooks to stop them all, which also stops your settings hooks and custom status line. None of these stop the built-in mods.1
terminal
git clone https://github.com/owner/some-mod.git
claude plugin validate ./some-mod

# then try it for one session before you install it for good
claude --plugin-dir ./some-mod

One more thing to watch for: some READMEs were written during the four weeks of early access and still tell you to set CLAUDE_CODE_ENABLE_FUNCTION_HOOKS. Claude Code v2.1.287 and later ignore it, and the docs say to remove it.1

Want more than ten? The awesome-claude-code-mods catalogue scans public repositories and shows, for each mod, what the validator says it can read, write, run or send over the network.13 That makes it a good place to compare mods before you pick one.

Every mod on this list works inside the session, while Claude writes code. None of them sees your app once it ships. Fixter is monitoring for teams that build with coding agents: you send your logs and traces over standard OpenTelemetry, and Fixter finds the issues and bugs in your system and tells you what broke and why. You pull them into Claude Code over MCP and fix them there.

Key takeaways

  • Safety: blast-radius holds risky commands, secret-redactor hides secrets from the model
  • Cost and usage: cache-tax, pixel-buddy and token-weather keep spend and context in view
  • Git and sessions: cc-pr-tracker watches pull requests, baton passes work between sessions, session-pings (ours) tells you which session needs you, Session Tracker (ours) lists them all in a sidebar
  • Three mods are already built in: /diff, AGENTS.md support and You should know
  • Mods are not sandboxed: read the repo and run claude plugin validate before you install

Frequently asked questions

What are the best Claude Code mods?

It depends on the job. For safety, blast-radius (an Anthropic sample) and secret-redactor. For cost and usage, cache-tax, pixel-buddy and token-weather. For pull requests, cc-pr-tracker. For work across sessions, baton, plus our own session-pings and Session Tracker. For other models, cc-multi-cli-plugin. For prompts, prompt-spellcheck. Three good mods are already built into Claude Code: /diff, AGENTS.md support and You should know.

Are Claude Code mods safe to install?

A mod is code that runs inside Claude Code with your permissions, and it is not sandboxed. It can read your files and environment variables, see every prompt and tool call, approve tool calls, and call a model on your plan. Install mods only from authors you trust, read the code, and run claude plugin validate on the folder first: it lists the events the mod handles and what it asks Claude Code to do, without running it.

How do I install a Claude Code mod?

A mod installs like any plugin, from a marketplace. Most community mods are their own marketplace: run claude plugin marketplace add owner/repo, then claude plugin install name@marketplace. To try one for a single session, clone it and start Claude Code with claude --plugin-dir ./the-mod. You need Claude Code v2.1.287 or later, where mods are on by default.

Do Claude Code mods work in the desktop app?

Yes, in the Code tab of the Claude desktop app, which includes its own copy of Claude Code; mods work there too. They do not load in WSL sessions in the desktop app. In the VS Code extension's chat panel, in claude -p and in cloud sessions, a mod's hooks run but nothing it draws is shown.

Do Claude Code mods use my tokens?

Only when they call a model. On this list, prompt-spellcheck makes one Haiku call per prompt, cache-tax sends warming pings, session-pings (ours) uses Haiku for its one-line summaries (you can turn that off), and You should know runs a side agent. Mods that only draw or check commands, such as token-weather and blast-radius, do not call a model.

Where can I find a full list of Claude Code mods?

The community catalogue awesome-claude-code-mods on GitHub scans public repositories and records what Claude Code's validator says each mod can read, write, run or send over the network. Its October 4, 2026 scan counted 1,753 mods. Anthropic also shares three sample mods in its claude-code-playground repository.
