How to cancel Replit without taking your app offline
Cancelling Replit moves you to the free Starter plan at the end of your billing period. Starter allows one published app that goes offline after 30 days, and it removes custom domains. So if people use your app, cancel last: move the app and its data, point your domain at the new home, then cancel.
What cancelling does
| What | After the billing period ends |
|---|---|
| Your plan | Drops to Starter. Until then, you keep everything you paid for. |
| Published apps | Starter allows one, and it goes offline after 30 days. The rest may go offline. |
| Custom domains | Removed. |
| Projects and data | Kept, within Starter's limits. Storage is reduced, so download what you need first. |
| Unused credits | Lost. Core credits never roll over. |
| Usage already done | Still billed, possibly after you cancel. |
Replit says nothing is deleted on a downgrade.2 An organization is different: cancelling it means deleting it, and all its resources are deleted with it.6
Three options, depending on what you want
You want a smaller bill, not to leave
On Pro, step down to Core. The cancel flow offers it, and your published apps stay running. On either plan, a usage limit and Free Mode do more for the bill than cancelling does; credits explained shows where to set them.
You want a break
Some accounts can pause once for a month. Apps stay live, but there are no credits that month and usage is billed pay-as-you-go, so a pause with an active Agent can cost more than staying.
You want to leave and keep the app
Then the order matters. Cancelling is the last step, not the first.
Leaving without downtime, in order
- Get the code into your own GitHub. Check that the repository really matches what runs on Replit; Git sync can break without anyone noticing; it had on the app we moved.
- List what Replit provides for you. Secrets, the Postgres database, App Storage files, Replit Auth logins, scheduled jobs, the domain. Each needs a replacement.
- Set up the new home. Your own cloud account with a database, file storage and a way to run the app and its background jobs.
- Copy the database and files, then check that every table and row arrived. Rehearse the copy once on a staging copy.
- Run the app on the new home next to the Replit one and test it with real logins and real payments.
- Switch the domain. Lower the DNS time-to-live a day before so the switch spreads in minutes. Keep Replit running in case you need to switch back.
- Watch it for a few days, then download anything left on Replit and cancel.
Replit Auth and Replit's built-in database do not move as-is, so expect real work there. If the app has paying users, rehearse the database copy before the real switch.
How to cancel
- Open replit.com/settings/billing.
- If the billing status shows past due, fix the failed payment first; Replit asks for that before you cancel.
- Open Manage subscription and choose Cancel subscription. Skip the offers you do not want and confirm.
- Keep the confirmation email. Replit sends a reminder seven days before a scheduled downgrade.
Refunds
Replit's terms give a full refund on the most recent subscription charge if you ask within 30 days of it.5 Usage is never refunded: Agent work, hosting overage and domain fees are final. To ask, cancel first, then write to support with the payment ID that starts with pi_. Talk to support before you dispute a charge with your bank; a chargeback can lock the account, and with it your projects.
Questions
How do I cancel my Replit subscription?
Go to Settings, Billing (replit.com/settings/billing), open Manage subscription and choose Cancel subscription, then confirm. You keep the plan until the end of the billing period and then move to the free Starter plan. If your billing shows past due, fix the failed payment first.
What happens to my published app if I cancel Replit?
At the end of the billing period you move to Starter, which allows one published app that goes offline after 30 days. Custom domains are removed and storage is reduced. If the app needs to stay up, move it before you cancel.
Can I get a refund from Replit?
Replit's terms give a full refund on the most recent subscription charge if you ask within 30 days of it. Usage charges, including Agent work, and domain fees are not refundable. Cancel first, then contact support with the payment ID that starts with pi_.
Why did Replit charge me after I cancelled?
Usage from before you cancelled can be invoiced later, when it crosses a billing threshold. Cancelling also only takes effect at the end of the period. If a charge is for usage after that date, contact Replit support before disputing it with your bank, because a chargeback can lock the account.
Can I pause Replit instead of cancelling?
Some accounts are offered a one-month pause in the cancel flow. Published apps stay live, but you get no credits for that month and Agent and hosting usage is billed pay-as-you-go. Pro users can also step down to Core and keep their apps running.
